Russian forces destroyed 105 Ukrainian drones overnight, the RIA Novosti news agency reported, citing the Russian Ministry of Defence. At least 34 people were killed and another 117, including 11 children, were injured by a Russian missile attack on the northern Ukrainian city of Sumy, Ukraine's state emergency service said. Russia's Defence Ministry said its air defence units "intercepted and destroyed" 11 Ukrainian drones over the country's Kursk and Belgorod regions, which border Ukraine, as well as the southern Rostov region overnight. Russia's Defence Ministry said Kyiv carried out seven attacks on Moscow's energy infrastructure facilities between April 5 and 6, despite a moratorium on energy strikes brokered by the United States. According to the ministry, the attacks targeted the Crimean region, which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014, as well as Russia's Bryansk, Rostov and Voronezh regions. The ministry also said that Kremlin forces launched an overnight strike using long-range precision weapons and drones against Ukraine's central artillery armament base and defence industry enterprises involved in drone production. According to the ministry, Moscow also gained control over the village of Basivka in Ukraine's Sumy region in a rare cross-border advance.

Regional authorities in northeast Ukraine's Sumy region said Russian drone attacks damaged two hospitals there, while a 29-year-old man was killed and three others were injured in a separate attack on a residential building. Kyiv region's Governor Mykola Kalashnyk said Kremlin drones damaged several houses near the Ukrainian capital, resulting in a 60-year-old man being injured. Ukraine's state railway network Ukrzaliznytsia said Moscow's forces attacked its power system twice in the city of Dnipro, with the first strike hitting just hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin committed to a 30-day pause on attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. The second attack injured four people. "Russia is attacking civilian infrastructure and people โ right now," said Andriy Yermak, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's chief of staff.
Russia and Ukraine carry out attacks after Putin-Trump call
Within hours of Putin agreeing to halt attacks on energy infrastructure, Zelensky said "there have been hits, specifically on civilian infrastructure", including a hospital in Sumy. Zelensky said that Russia launched more than 40 drones against Ukraine in the hours following the call between Trump and Putin. "It is these types of night-time attacks by Russia that destroy our energy sector, our infrastructure, and the normal life of Ukrainians," Zelensky said. "Today, Putin effectively rejected the proposal for a full ceasefire." Meanwhile, the Russian defence ministry said of the 57 Ukrainian drones it intercepted and destroyed overnight, 35 were over the Kursk border region.
Jeremy Bowen: No sign of a quick peace dividend for Trump in Ukraine
Sumy is busy enough during the day, with shops open and well-stocked. But once it gets dark the streets are almost deserted. Air raid alerts come frequently. Anti-aircraft guns fire tracer into the sky for hours, aimed at the waves of Russian drones that cross the border near here to attack targets much deeper inside Ukraine โ and sometimes in Sumy itself. A big block of flats has a hole three storeys high ripped out of it.

Russian forces have captured the village of Kopanky in Ukraine's northeastern Kharkiv region, Russia's Ministry of Defence has said. Two civilians have died in Russian shelling in the city of Sumy in northeastern Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, adding that a rescue operation is under way and more people could be under debris. Ukraine has hit Russia with Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS), produced by the United States, twice over the last three days and Russia is preparing retaliatory measures, according to the Defence Ministry in Moscow. It said both strikes targeted Russian forces in the Kursk region, without reporting any casualties. Russia conducted its largest ever drone attack on Ukraine overnight, damaging the grid in Ternopil and cutting power to about 70 percent of the region, as well as damaging residential buildings in the Kyiv region, Ukrainian officials said.
Eight killed in Russian drone attacks on medical centre in Sumy, Ukraine
At least eight people have died in two consecutive Russian drone attacks on a medical centre in the northeast Ukrainian city of Sumy, Ukrainian officials have said. The first attack on Saturday morning killed one person, and it was followed by another attack while patients and staff were evacuating, Ukraine's Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said. Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on his Telegram channel that Russia had hit the hospital using Shahed drones, stating that eleven people were injured. Sumy lies just across the border from Russia's Kursk region where Kyiv launched a shock offensive on August 6, which it says is aimed partly at creating a "buffer zone" inside Russia. Regional prosecutors said the first attack in Sumy on Saturday took place at about 7:35am (04:35 GMT), hitting the hospital where there were 86 patients and 38 staff.
Fires at Russian energy plants after Ukraine drone attacks
In Ukraine, a 23-year-old lorry driver was killed after a Russian air strike on a grain convoy in the Sumy region overnight, local officials have said. Prosecutors said four others were injured in the attack after one lorry caught fire and around 20 others were damaged. Ukraine's air force also said it had destroyed eight out of 11 drones used by Russia, adding that grain and agriculture facilities had been targeted in the Mykolaiv region as well. Sumy borders Russia's Kursk region, where Ukraine has been carrying out a military incursion for nearly a month. Progress has slowed in recent days, but Ukraine claimed last week it controlled 1,294 sq km (500 sq miles) of territory - including 100 settlements.

One of the Shahed drones hit an energy facility in the Sumy region while another struck a site in the Chernihiv region. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
